    Relating Moles and Coefficients Lab May 10 2018 Paige Walk Alliyah Lockett    I.   Purpose The purpose of this lab was to determine the ratio of grams and moles of a reactant to grams and moles of a product. II.   Procedure During the procedure of this lab you need to mix copper and water, heat the mixture continuously until it completely dissolved. Then, add iron filings to the hot copper sulfate solution. After letting it sit you can then decant all the liquid and have the teacher dry out the left over copper to find out the mass of the beaker and contents. III.   Materials The materials used was copper sulfate crystals, iron filings, and water. IV.   Equipment The equipment used was a digital balance, a bunsen burner, a 250 mL beaker, a 600 mL beaker, a 100 mL graduated cylinder, an iron ring, a ring stand, wire gauze, a stirring rod, and beaker tongs. V.   Data (Measured) During the lab the mass of the 250 mL beaker was 113.48 grams. The empty weighing boat mass was 1.90 grams. Around 12.50 grams of copper was weighed in the weighing boat after the scale was zeroed. 49.5 mL (49 mL- 50 mL) was measured into a 100 mL graduated cylinder. In a separate  procedure using a different weighing boat it’s mass was 1.81 grams. Then 2.80 grams of iron fi lings were added into the weighing boat after the scale was zeroed. Water was decanted from the solution and the mass of the 250 mL beaker and its contents was 253.54 grams making the contents just 3.54 grams. VI.   Calculations    N/A VII. Questions   N/A VIII.   Conclusions In this lab, I found it helpful to use the actual yield, theoretical yield and percent yield. Once completing this lab I knew how to calculate the difference in yields and determining them.
