Badminton (Sports Fest) 1.   There will be 10 competing teams. 2.   Each team will have players for men and women (same rules for men and women). 3.   There will be three (3) events: (A) the first singles, (B) the doubles, and (C) the second singles. 4.   Winning 2 out of the 3 events will decide the winner of the game. If they win the first two matches (the first singles and the doubles), they win and the game is over. 5.   There will be 3 officials for the game: the umpire and 2 linesmen (diagonally positioned outside the court edges). A.   The first singles a.   Each team will have one player for this game. b.   A toss coin will be held. The winner will be entitled to choose between court and service. c.   The court dimensions will determine the areas where the game can still be played and where it cannot be played anymore (outside  –  the umpire and the linesmen will be responsible for these decisions). d.   The first service will be on the right service court of both players (diagonally positioned). e.   Service must always be above the wa ist of the player or else it will be “fault”. If this happens, the opponent earns the point and serves for the next round. f.   If a player is unable to put the shuttlecock into the opponent’s court, the opponent earns the point and serves for the next round. g.   When a player earns a point, he/she and his/her opponent must transfer to the other side of their court. The person who scored serves for the game. h.   There will be a change of court when one of them reaches the score of 15. It will end when one of them scores 30. Exception: i.   If both players score 29, the game will continue until one of them gains a 2-point advantage. B.   The doubles a.   Each team will have two players for this game. The player for the first singles can play in this event. b.   The event will be best of 3 sets. The first one to win 2 sets wins the game. c.   The first 2 sets will be up to 21 points; if they score 20  –  20, the set winner will only be declared when one team gains a 2-point advantage over the other. d.   A toss coin will be held. The winner will be entitled to choose between court and service.  e.   The court dimensions will determine the areas where the game can still be played and where it cannot be played anymore (outside  –  the umpire and the linesmen will be responsible for these decisions). f.   The first service will be on the right service court of both players (diagonally positioned). g.   Service must always be above the waist of the player or else it will be “fault”. If this happens, the opponents earn the point and serves for the next round. h.   If a player is una ble to put the shuttlecock into the opponents’ court, the opponent s earn the point and serves for the next round. i.   When the service of a team is halted (because the opposing team scored), and gains a score on the next round, the player who did not serve (on the previous round where their opponent scored) will be the one serving on the current round.  j.   When a team earns a point, the players must switch places with each other in order to serve to a different opponent while retaining the server. k.   On the second set, they will have a change of court. The team who will be serving is the team who first received in the first set. l.   When it has come to a deciding set (3 rd  set), teams will change courts. And when a team scores 8, they will have another change of court. The team who first gets to 15 (whether they tied at 14 or not) wins the game. C.   The second singles a.   Each team will have one player for this game. All other players aside from the first singles player can play in this event. b.   A toss coin will be held. The winner will be entitled to choose between court and service. c.   The court dimensions will determine the areas where the game can still be played and where it cannot be played anymore (outside  –  the umpire and the linesmen will be responsible for these decisions). d.   The first service will be on the right service court of both players (diagonally positioned). e.   Service must always be above the waist of the player or else it will be “fault”.
