BIOMEDICAL PROJECT ABTRACT PATIENT CARE UNIT SYNOPSIS This is an Embedded System concept that can be effectively implemented in hospitals. By this project concept the patient’s temperature and the details on the drip provided to him are monitored, displayed and in case of any emergency an alarm gets activated to have the attention of the duty nurse. The block diagrams of the systems are shown below.  ************************************************************************ PC BASED PATIENT MONITORING SYSTEM SYNOPSIS Our  project  is  a  working  model  which  incorporates  sensors  to  measureparameters like body temperature, heart beat rate and ECG and transfer it to the computer so that the patient’s health condition can be analyzed by doctors in any part of the ControlSwitchDriMonitor Buzzer LCD PIC MicroController  Patient Care Unit TemperatureSensor   hospital. Thus, it reduces the doctor’s workload and also gives accurate results.  A micro-controller board is used for analyzing the inputs from the patient and any abnormality feltby the patient causes the monitoring system to give an alarm. Also all the processparameters within an interval selectable by the user are recorded online. This is veryuseful for future analysis and review of patient’s health condition. For more versatilemedical applications, this project can be improvised, by incorporating blood pressuremonitoring systems, dental sensors and annunciation systems, thereby making it useful inhospitals as a very efficient and dedicated patient care system. Some monitors can warn of pendingfatal conditions before visible signs are noticeable to clinical staff. The development inmedical electronics has made lot of improvements in saving the lives of patients. In ahospital environment the systems used should not prove harmonious to patients. Especiallythe system has to work 24*7 and should with stand critical situations. The system should beas compact as possible that the patient should not feel uncomfortable when he wears it. Thesystem should also consume very little power. Above all the important point is that it has todo its function at any situation.
