The company’s head office is at Bangaloreand manufacturing plants are all based in India.Private Label Worldwide is essentially a high volume, low cost manufacturerwho, to date, does have a brand and product range of its own and but forIndian operations it is totally dependant on supplying to leading sportswearand clothing companies including Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Fila, Levi andWrangler. The company, whilst predominantly a clothing manufacturer, has over thepast few years been ‘pressured’ by its major customers to move intofootwear, which due to investment costs and ‘the learning curve’, and has yetto contribute to the company’s profits, and is unlikely to do so in the next fiveyears. Due to the nature of the business, the company’s customer base issmall in number in India but large in volume, and whilst its turnover is inexcess of 470 crores but its profit margin is low, on average 7%.Sports Label is the company’s lead brand in India sales at retail outlets inEurope and USA. The company has sales and distribution centre based inBangalore and supplies worldwide from Bangalore. Company had atremendous success in recent past for its brand recognition by sponsoringCricket clubs and general sporting activities in India and part of the service itprovides is the distribution of sportswear kit to Cricket clubs and sportsretailers throughout India. You are the Sales and Marketing Manager of “Private Label Worldwide Inc”,and over the past one year you have noticed that your company’s profitmargins are being continually ‘squeezed’ by more exacting demands on costsand distribution by your major customers like Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Fila, Leviand Wrangler.With a background in marketing and finance, you are concerned that thecompany in effect seems to be controlled by a handful of powerful buyerseven though having a visible brand “Sports label” in India. It is not possiblefor the Private Label worldwide to move away from large buyers due tosurvival reasons but at the same time, is considering seriously jumping in toretail operations in a big way, in India. Your board of directors and head office management have listened to yourconcerns and asked you to provide a Marketing Mix and Retail Sales planwhich will move the company away from being dependant and controlled bya small number of large customers and therefore help the company’s overallprofit position and market penetration. Your report must be of 2000 wordswith real market scenario in recommendation. Please carry out an  independent research to learn about market dynamics in sports wear andshoe segment. Answer the Following Questions:Q1. Within the company’s existing manufacturing capabilitiesand existing brand, identify and explain which product rangewould you recommend for retail sales and why? Q2. What will be your recommendation for pricing and promotion forthe “Sports label India” with reasons for doing so. Q3.
