  DRAFT  Airservices Australia Review of Canberra Airport Noise AbatementProceduresTerms of ReferenceContext On 28 August 2009, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, RegionalDevelopment and Local Government approved the Master Plan forCanberra Airport. In doing so, the Minister acknowledged the concernwithin the Canberra community about aircraft noise and noted thatAirservices Australia had been requested to conduct a review of noiseabatement. It was further noted that Airservices’ review would beconducted in 2010 and will “consider options to concentrate aircraft noiseaway from existing residential areas, especially at night” and “examinethe application of air navigation technology to minimise the impact of aircraft noise” (source: Media Release 28 August 2009). Purpose To review ways to minimise the impact of aircraft noise on residentialareas around Canberra Airport, especially at night, and advise the Ministerof options to concentrate aircraft noise away from existing residentialareas. Review Process Terms of Reference The Terms of Reference for the review will be agreed between Airservicesand DITRDLG, following consideration by members of Canberra Airport’sCommunity Consultation Committee at its February 2010 meeting. TheTerms of Reference will be circulated to Committee members for commentby 28 February 2010.
