FLOWCRETE December, 00 Page 1 of 3 PRODUCT Target Flowcrete consists of accurately weighed Portland cement, aggregates and chemical admixtures. The product is designed to be used as original or repair concrete in situations requiring a high-quality concrete with a maximum aggregate size of 10mm (3/8 inch). It may be mixed to any consistency from stiff plastic to flowing. An air-entraining agent is incorporated in the dry product to produce a concrete having good resistance to freezing and thawing. Shrinkage compensating agents are included to minimize plastic shrinkage. On request, Target Flowcrete based on Type 50 (Type V) cement can be supplied for use in areas requiring sulphate-resistant cement. Target Flowcrete with Silica Fume is also available for applications requiring reduced permeabilty. FLOWCRETE USES Target Flowcrete is designed for uses such as the following: December, 00 Page 2 of 3 Grouting of keyways or general grouting operations where a maximum aggregate size of 10mm (3/8 inch) is desirable. Levellng beds with a thickness of 25mm (1 inch) or more. Void fillng where a 10mm (3/8 inch) aggregate is desirable or where the minimum dimension ofthe pour exceeds 25mm (1 inch). For smaller dimensions, use Target Machine Base Grout, Target Portland Expanding Grout or Target 1118 Grout. Structural repairs and applications requiring a high quality concrete at any consistency between stiff plastic and flowing where the quantities involved or placement conditions make the use of conventional ready-mixed concrete impractical. On request, silca fume can be included in the mix to give reduced permeabilty. PROCEDURES 1. Prepare existing concrete surfaces for application of Target Flowcrete by thoroughly cleaning, using appropriate techniques to remove dirt, oil, laitance, efforescence or deteriorated concrete. Note: In some cases, such as overlays, levellng beds or repair work, a bonding slurr of Target Fast Set Patching Concrete with a mixture of one part by volume of Target Polymer Bonding Agent to two parts by volume of clean water is required. See product literature for Target Polymer Bonding Agent for additional details. Placing of Target Flowcrete over the slurr coat should be completed before the slurr dries and wiin one hour of mixing the slurr. 2. Add clean water to a suitable mixing container. Appropriate mixers include Jiffer or paddle mixers powered by a 1/2 inch dril, or conventional mortar or concrete mixers where batch sizes warrant the use of a larger mixer. Rotating drum mixers are suitable only if the batch size is 50% to 75% of the nominal capacity of the mixer and the mixer fins are in good condition. 3. Add Target Flowcrete to water with continuous mixing to achieve the required consistency. 4. Mix for not less than 2 minutes. If a mixing period of less than 5 minutes is used, remix before placing. 5. Place and consolidate within 30 minutes of mixing, using methods suited to the application and consistency required. 6. Use conventional concrete finishing procedures to obtain the required surface finish. The use of magnesium or Plexiglass trowels has been found to give improved finishes to flatwork. 7. Place only at ambient temperatures above 5 C (40 F) and below 30 C (86 F). Protect from freezing and from temperatures above 35 C (95 F) during the first three days after placing. FAST SET PATCHING CONCRETE December, 00 Page 2 of 3 USES Target Fast Set Patching Concrete is designed for uses such as the following:. To repair honeycombing, rock pockets, chips, spalls and minor accidental damage in concrete structures.. To plug form tile holes and other small holes in concrete and masonry.. To point joints in masonry, concrete pipe or precast concrete units.. As a concrete bonding slurry when mixed with a blend of 1 part Target Polymer Bonding Agent to 2 parts water by volume.. As a polymer-modified concrete repair or resurfacing material when mixed with a blend of 1 part Target Polymer Bonding Agent to 3 parts water by volume and applied in thicknesses of up to 19mm (3/4 inch).. To anchor posts, signs, railngs and other fixtures in concrete or masonry. COLOR Similar to Portland cement concrete PROCEDURES 1. Prepare the repair areas by chipping, saw-cutting, sandblasting or other means that wil ensure that deleterious materials are removed. It is always preferable to have a 10mm (0.4 inch) minimum vertical edge where contact between new and old concrete occurs. Feather edging is generally not recommended, except when Target Polymer Bonding Agent is included in the mix. 2. Remove any dust or loose material from the area to be patched or filled. The surface should be thoroughly saturated with water and maintained wet for at least one hour before fillng operations begin. Remove all free surface water and allow the surface to become surface dry just prior to fillng. 3. In smaller patches and joints, bonding agents are generally not necessary. In large patches in slabs or walls the bond strength can be increased by first scrubbing the area to be filled with a slurry of Target Fast Set Patching Concrete mixed with a blend of 1 part by volume of Target Polymer Bonding Agent to 2 parts by volume of water. The use of Target Polymer Bonding Agent wil also give improved resistance to penetration by water and de- icing salts. 4. Empty Target Fast Set Patching Concrete into a clean wheelbarrow, pail or mixer and add clean water.
