It has created a revolution all over the globe in the field of exchange of ideas and information. In modern times internet has been used not only our personal life and also our professional lives developments. The internet has become an important part of life. There is no life without internet. Most of us use the internet for various purposes, such as found employment in the industry, social-political efforts, making new friends, renewing contacts with old friends and family members, and shopping online, and so on. Thus, it is a comparative study of differences in usage of internet between male and female is made in this study.KEYWORDS: Internet, Computer & Network INTRODUCTION Internet is an information superhighway. It acts as a backbone of a wide range of information resources. The internet is not only to access information but also it helps to do many activities such as paying bills and taxes, chatting with friends, running business, entertainment, games, online purchasing, downloading movies and so on. Internet makes the revolutionary change in the life of people. This change will pave the way to attain tremendous improvements in the life of people.OBJECTIVES •To analyze the awareness level of basic internet details of male and female respondents.•To compare the usage of internet among male and female.•To offer suggestions to telecommunication service provider to increase their customer’s internet usage level among male and femaleMETHODOLOGY The study was conducted by the means of personal interviews with respondents and the information was collected through questionnaire method. Both primary and secondary data were extensively used for the study. The primary data were collected through questionnaires given in the Annexure and secondary data were collected from Journals, Reports and Websites.AWARENESS LEVEL OF BASIC USAGE IN INTERNET To test the awareness level in the basic usage of internet five factors is identified. Weighted average has been applied to rank the statements in descending order. The weighted average is found by using the scoresImpact Factor (JCC): 2.9987www.bestjournals.in58V. Female respondents often used the internet for video calling, playing games, and both male and female respondents equal usage in Social Networking Sites. Out of 15 usage factors majority 12 factors are often used by the male respondents and 2 factors are often used by the female respondents and one factor has an equal usage of both. Majority of Female respondents occasionally used internet for Video Downloading, Games Downloading, Application / Software Downloading, Mail Checking, Bill Payments, Internet Banking, Video Calling, Social Networking Sites, Playing Games, Watching News / Videos, Reading Books/Newspaper/Journals. Out of 15 usage factors majority 4 factors are occasionally used by the male respondents and 11 factors are occasionally used by the female respondents. Majority of Female respondents not used internet for ticket booking, video downloading, online shopping, bill payments, internet banking, watching news / videos, online trading in the stock market and online applications. Out of 15 usage factors majority 7 factors are not used by the male respondents and 8 factors are not used by the female respondents. Thus, it is concluded that female respondents are not used many factors in internet compared to male. Thus, it is concluded that male respondents are often used for internet in most of the purpose compared to female. Female respondents are occasionally used and not used so many factors in the internet.Chart 4: Level of Usage of Internet (Not Used)NAAS Rating: 2.97Index Copernicus Value (ICV): 5863A Comparative Study on Internet Usage of Male and Female (with Special Reference to Palani Town)FINDINGS •Thus, most of male respondents are aware about Browser and most of female respondents are aware about Website Address.•Majority is using the internet for social networking sites which is having first rank and online trading in stock market usage has last rank i.e., fifteen.•It is clearly understood from the study as comparison of male and female in the level of using the internet, that male respondents are often used for internet in most of the purpose as compared to female. Female respondents are occasionally used and not used so many factors in the internet.SUGGESTIONS •Male respondents are often used internet compared to female. So the internet services provide will bring new offers and discount plan for females.•As from the result of the study, both male and female used internet for entertainment purpose, so the service provider should bring the special packages for playing games, watching TV programs, news and so on.•Most of the respondents used internet for social networking sites so the service provider should bring the special packages for the same like special pack for Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and Hike.•Services provider should make control over the internet crimes. This would make the people feel free in using internet for banking and financial dealings.CONCLUSIONS In today’s world, internet makes some enormous change in the communication process. People can share any kind of document like text, audio, video and so on within fractions of a second so the internet has become one of the major necessities of life in almost all countries. It has a rich source of information, and containing entertainment. The internet has grown tremendously throughout all aspects of our life in recent years, Thus it has become a powerful tool for exchanging information and ideas as well as for learning and gaining knowledge.
