The Author  5 ABSTRACT This study was conducted to analyse the existing marketing system of inland open water fish to estimate the marketing costs and to identify the problems of fish marketing in two selected areas of Nikli and Kishoregonj sadar upazilas. Three different marketing channels were identified in the present fish marketing system at the study areas. Data were collected from 20 fishers and 40 traders from Nikli upazila and Kishoregonj sadar upazila. The fishers were selected purposively from Nikli upazila and Kishoregonj sadar .The field work covered the period from August to October 2008. The study based on primary data. Findings of the study revealed that total marketing cost per 100 kg of fish incurred intermediaries of Nikli upazila was BDT 280, 574 and 280 for aratdars, paikars and retailers respectively. The average  profit per 100 kg fish for aratdars, paikars and retailers was calculated at BDT 349, 526 and 720 respectively. The total marketing cost per 100 kg fish incurred by the intermediaries of Kishoregonj town market was estimated at BDT 300, 600 and 320 for aratdars, paikars and retailers respectively. The average profit per 100 kg for aratdars, paikars and retailers were calculated at BDT 377, 648 and 733 respectively. Some problems and constraints were identified and possible steps are suggested for gradual removal of these problems with the help of related administration of the government.
