  Running head: STORYTELLING IN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO Storytelling in Instructional Video Rance Smith Full Sail University  STORYTELLING IN INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO 2 Abstract This paper critiqued the instructional value of a Brave New Films ’  video  How Protect & Serve  Became Search & Destroy   . The everyday usage of rich media, specifically videos, in instruction requires deliberation of current research and debate on the issue of whether they are effectiv e in today’s learning environments. Moreover, whether such learning objects are effective for narrative-based instruction and how they should be designed has been considered in evaluating the digital video that was selected for usage by community organizers as an intended audience of learners. Furthermore, the paper simultaneously examined both: the video’s propensity for use  and answers the question of whether this video is an effective learning object. Lastly, the benefits of using design stories for each of the following elements of instructional systems design has been analyzed: the design phase, as design communications, as well as, for the formative evaluation  phase.
