NETGEAR WNR1000 Default PasswordHow to get in if you forget your NETGEAR router login credentialsAll four versions of the NETGEAR WNR1000 router ship with a default username, password, and IP address. To access the router, open a web browser, go to the address bar and enter, which is the IP address common to most routers. Then enter admin as the default username and password as the default password (the password is case sensitive). If the Default Password Doesn't WorkIf the default password doesn't work for the WNR1000 router, someone changed it at some point. To return the router to the defaults, reset the router to its factory default settings. This removes the changed password and username, then restores thedefault credentials.Reset and restart are two separate concepts. Restarting the router doesn't reset the software; it starts a new session using the same login credentials. Here's how to reset a NETGEAR WNR1000 router:Plug in the power cable and turn on the router.Turn the WNR1000 around so you have access to the back panel.Use a paperclip or other sharp object to press the Reset button. Hold the Reset button for five to 10 seconds or until the power light blinks. When the power light stops blinking and becomes a solid color, the reset is complete. This may take at least 30 seconds.Unplug the power cable for a few seconds. Then, plug it back in to reboot the router.Wait at least 30 seconds for the WNR1000 to boot up.When the router is reset, go to and enter admin for the usernameand password for the password.WNR1000 interfaceTo ensure security, change the default password.Passwords should be complex and hard to guess. Use a free password manager to storeyour passwords and find them quickly.Restore Your Preferred SettingsReenter the other custom settings if you want your router back in the same state itwas in before you reset it. If you had a wireless network configured, for example, enter the SSID and password you want to use. The same is true for other custom settings, such as DNS servers. To avoid entering this information again if you reset the router in the future, back up the router settings to a file. Find out how to back up and restore the router configuration in Chapter 6 of the WNR1000 manual, in the Managing the Configuration File section.  What to Do When You Can't Access the RouterBy default, you can access the NETGEAR WNR1000 router at, unlessthe IP address was changed after it was first set up. You don't have to reset the router just to learn its IP address. Instead, use a computer that's connected to the router to find the default gateway.Firmware and Manual LinksAll downloads, user manuals, and support articles for this router are available on the NETGEAR WNR1000v1 support page.
