  Study Medication Adherence and Outcomes in the TODAY Cohort Presented for the TODAY Study Group by Siripoom McKay, MD Funded by  2 Disclosure of Presenter Siripoom McKay, MD Department of Pediatrics Baylor College of Medicine No conflicts to disclose.  TODAY Study Design ã 10-17 years old in 15 US sites  – diagnosed with type 2 diabetes <2 yrs ã 2-6 month pre-randomization run-in  – Master standard diabetes education  – ≥ 80% adherence to bid metformin for ≥8 of 12 weeks    – HbA1c <8.0% on metformin 500-1000 mg bid for 2 months  – ≤2 missed visits ã Randomized to one of 3 treatment arms (n=699)  – Metformin alone (M)  – Metformin plus rosiglitazone (M+R)  – Metformin plus lifestyle program (M+L) ã 4 year enrollment period, 2-6 years follow-up 3  Presentation Objectives To examine relationships between medication adherence and ã Demographic characteristics ã Depressive symptoms at randomization ã Failure to maintain glucose control ã Insulin sensitivity 4
