5.0 out of 5 stars Background information and philosopy of Kung-Fu San Soo. December 23, 1998 By A Customer Format:PaperbackMaster Greg Jones has a very solid and deep understanding of kung-fu san soo. It is evident in this well written and very articulate book on one of the most devastating martial arts currently taught to the public. Master Greg Jones ability to translate what he learned from the late Master Al Rubin into words is testimony to his knowledgable and extremely compentent training. This book will give the uninitiated to kung-fu san soo an excellent starting point on the art. This book is extremely useful for long time, experienced students of the art as a review and referrence manual. I bought this book in 1988 when it first came out, and have since read it five times. An excellent resource on the martial art of Kung-Fu San Soo! Comment | Was this review helpful to you?Yes No 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful5.0 out of 5 stars Great book! June 7, 2000 By A Customer Format:Paperback|Verified PurchaseI got this book along with many others shortly after taking san soo classes. And of all the books I've read, this is the best written book on martial arts. It's clear and precise, and the techniques are VERY practical. It's unfortunate that san soo hasn't gotten too much exposure like the other forms of martial arts, because it can be utilize by a beginner effectively. I would recommend this book even if you are learning other forms of art. I can still remember sitting around with my family and watching wrestling on our old black and white TV along with many programs that centered around wrestling..One of my heros was Lou Thesz and it was always exciting to walk past him on the street where he would acknowledge all of us kids in our high school letter jackets. Lou Thesz' mentor was Ed Strangler Lewis. This book was first published in 1926 and was out of print for years until it was republished in 2008.After years of interest in various types of Focused Muscular Tension type exercise systems I first came across this book in 2011. I had traced the development of this type of exercise since it was first introduced to western society by Alois P.Swoboda in the 1800s It was the basis of his Conscious Evolution course which he promoted by means of another invention of his the mail order physical development course'.I found this book extremely interesting as it promoted the mind/body concept using muscle tension and visualization to project Vital Energy to develop the body, mind, and the spirit. It uses various types of muscle tensing exercises and introduces the use of an early version of the Isometric Power
