Assessment Plan Entry Level Fromative Summative Short Discussion - What are the components of an expression. Quiz - Expressions and Degree Group Activity - Create factored expressions, have a classmate expand it and grade each other's work Graphic Organizer - Factoring Worksheet - Expanding Expressions, Factoring, and Corresponding zero equations Project - Graphing Equations Using Desmos Exam - Expressions, Degree, Expanding, Factoring  Students will be assessed using a variation of methods following the above Assessment Plan. For entry level assessment, we will have a short discussion as a class in which we go over the vocabulary that is necessary in order to proceed with the unit. Students should be able to recognize what an expression is and its components before being able to proceed to determining their degree or classification. After the teacher lecture and completion of the guided notes, students will be sent home with homework. Homework will be graded in class using a class grading format. During this session, we will discuss any questions that arise from the homework. After questions are answered, students will take a 30 minute quiz (which can be found below). This quiz will help determine if students have begun to form the targeted concepts as intended. We will then move on to a Group Activity in which students test each other on their new knowledge. Students will come up with their own factored expressions and then expand them using software (the link can be found under unit resources). Once they have the correct answer, they will round-robin their expressions with their teammates who will have to expand them by hand. The students will the have the opportunity to grade their classmates' work and provide feedback if their teammate get the answer wrong. The discussion and interaction between students will be closely monitored by the teacher to ensure that students are using what they have learned efficiently and are providing their classmates with appropriate feedback. The next opportunity for assessment will come when we complete the graphic organizer on lesson 3. Once turned in and graded, the teacher will be able to see areas in which students are excelling and also see if students are ready to move on to the examinations for the final part of the unit. The worksheets will be sent home and students will have the opportunity to work in pairs during class and ask questions. Lastly, our summative assessment will be done in two ways. Students will be assigned a project in which they will play around with an online graphing calculator tool. This project will help students visualize how much an expression can change when we make small changes to the expressions while in factored form. For example, the way a graph flips if we change the positive sign to a negative, or how much a graph can be widened by adding or subtracting only 1 or 2 from our coefficients. Students will be required to present their graphs and an explanation of why their graphs have changed the way that they have. This will indicate to the teacher how much understanding they have. Finally, students will take a comprehensive exam on the entire unit in which they will need a 70% or higher in order to pass. This will be the teacher's key indicator that the Big Ideas were met and that the students did indeed form the targeted concepts.
