It will take several yearsfor the varied and rare ferns to grow and spread all over,the result being a magical and atmospheric place all yearround. The Farm Lambs and calves abound inspring and cattle and sheepgraze in summer. Rarebreeds of poultry with theirchicks are a special interestto many school children whocome to see the workingfarm and learn about thecountryside. Every Christmastime the old farm buildingsare transformed to tell thebiblical story of the nativity,with life size woodencharacters and Bodenham’sanimals, including our owndonkeys. The “Follow theStar” Christmas Nativity trailis a wonderful family activityto start the season. Visitor’s Centre An award winningenvironmentally sensitivebuilding carved out of thehillside provides a focal pointfor your visit. A variety ofhome cooked food andcakes, including our ownfarm reared pork, beef andlamb compliments your day.Sunday and Christmaslunches are catered for aswell as public and privateevening functions, weddingsand funeral parties. Meanderthroughthebeauty, peaceandtranquillityof Bodenham…… A mile long drive winding through undulatingcountryside reaches the brow of the hill to reveala secret garden nurtured since 1973. An oasis ofplantations, pools and avenues beautifullylandscaped, including some 3,000 species oftrees and shrubs from all over the world. The epicentre of the Arboretum lies aroundthe Big Pool where many rare and ornamental trees can beseen in flower or fruit at all times of the year, their autumncolours being a special beauty. The Grand Avenue is plantedwith Pope’s Seat Provence Beech to mature over the nextcentury. It stretches up the hillside to the Gazebo, built tocelebrate the Millennium, whilst the higher reaches of theArboretum offer extensive views to the Clent Hills andsurrounding countryside.Through a patchwork quilt of pools, plantations, dells andglades, habitats provide for flora, fauna, insect life andnumerous species of resident and migrating birds. The aquatichabitats and wet margins to the pools provide a breedingground for many water-fowl and myriads of frogs emergeeach spring.Several miles of paths lead through acres of daffodils in earlyspring, and later primroses, bluebells and foxgloves line manyof the woodland walks.
