  Due to the deregulation of the Ontario ElectricityIndustry, the Ontario government has legislated changesrequiring new bills to be unbundled. This new billingmethod allows customers to easily identify the varioussources of electricity charges and compare them withother offers. As a result, your new electricity bill willfeature a number of lines displaying specific chargesformerly included in a one-charge method. A glossary of terms of the new unbundled charges aredisplayed at the bottom of this page. Delivery:  These are the costs of delivering electricityfrom generating stations across the Province to WhitbyHydro Electric Corporation then to your home or business.This includes the costs to build and maintain thetransmission and distribution lines, towers and poles andoperate provincial and local electricity systems. A portion of these charges are fixed and do not changefrom month to month. The rest are variable and increaseor decrease depending on the amount of electricity that  you use.The delivery charge also includes costs relating toelectricity lost through distributing electricity to yourhome or business.* Whitby Hydro Electric Corporationcollects this money and pays this amount directly to oursuppliers.* When electricity is delivered over a power line, it isnormal for a small amount of power to be consumed orlost as heat. Equipment, such as wires and transformers,consumes power before it gets to your home or business. GLOSSARY OF TERMS (Customers with a retailer)   Electricity:  This is the cost of the electricity supplied toyou during this billing period and is the part of the bill thatis subject to competition. The electricity consumed ismultiplied by the adjustment factor.* Whitby Hydrocollects this money and pays this amount directly to oursuppliers. *When electricity is delivered over a power line,it is normal for a small amount of power to be consumedor lost as heat. Equipment, such as wires andtransformers, consumes power before it gets to yourhome or business. The adjustment factor accounts forthe losses. GLOSSARY OF TERMS (ALL CUSTOMERS)Regulatory Charges:  Regulatory charges are the costsof administering the wholesale electricity system andmaintaining the reliability of the provincial grid and includethe costs associated with funding Ministry of Energyconservation and renewable energy programs. Debt Retirement Charge:  The debt retirement chargepays down the debt of the former Ontario Hydro. Global Adjustment:  The price of generation in Ontario isset by a competitive market. Certain generators receivepayments through regulation or contract that differ fromthe market price. Your portion of the net adjustmentarising from these different payments is included on yourbill.
