Professionals will be sharing their clinical and practical experience in the form of workshops, practical symposia and roundtable discussions. Creative and innovative issues in Respiratory Care will be presented in the plenary sessions while the exhibition hall will expose you to the latest in respiratory care technologies and related therapies. In addition to the scientific program, many off-site activities will be planned to make your visit to Stresa an educational and fun experience. Stresa, one of the most picturesque towns on the shores of Lake Maggiore, gives the most panoramic view over the lake and it is an ideal starting off point for sightseeing around the area. Stresa, with its wide avenue of trees and flowerbeds and its elegant lakefront lined with prestigious Art Nouveau hotels, welcomes you all and invites you to take advantage of its many varied excursions. We look forward to meeting you in Stresa. Philippe JOUD ERCA President 1 ERCA S PROFILE Quality patient care is essential. In the changing health care delivery system the European Care Association (ERCA) members, a multidisciplinary team consisting of Physicians, Physioterapists, Nurses, Biomedical Engineers and Respiratory Therapists, are dedicated to providing clinical assistance and support to Pneumonologists and other physicians in the management of the pulmonary patient. Areas of discipline include: ERCA members are active in wellness promotion and the diagnosis, treatment, education and rehabilitation of people with respiratory disorders. The European Respiratory Care Association is a professional association with a mission to: respiratory therapy standards ERCA supports respiratory patient care performed in a multidisciplinary team environment. By utilizing each member s scope of practice we better plan appropriate interventions, and evaluation of care plans. Respiratory Therapist offer a balance between the demands of a higly technological environment and satisfying individual patient needs consistent with individual patient rights comfort and privacy. ARIR S PROFILE ARIR was created in 1989 by a group of Physiotherapists who wanted to give a voice and contribute to the development of this profession by means of continuing education and discussion between those working in Physiotherapy and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. The multidisciplinary and Evidence-Based-Medicine approach are the preferred paradigms for pursuing the above objectives. In the last 15 years, ARIR has created links of significant interaction and collaboration with associations relating to and part of the field of Physiotherapy and Pulmonary rehabilitation. Arir has organized continuing education opportunities with the Italian Group of Cystic Fibrosis Physiotherapist (GIFT/FC) and with the Italia Physiotherapists Association (AIFI). ARIR has been a collaborator in the founding of the European Respiratory Care Association (ERCA) and since 2002 has been affiliated with the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) and with the Italian Hospital Pneumonologists Association (AIPO). Recently, ARIR has concluded a census of respiratory therapist working in Italian Hospitals, by which it intends to design, with help of other collaborating organizations, answers to specific needs which came forth. 2 COMMITTEES Organizing Committee President Philippe Joud (France) Vice President Marta Lazzeri (Italy) Members Scientific Committee Belgium Bougatef Adel, MD Norremberg Michèlle, Physio Roeseler Jean, Physio Soudon Philippe, MD Denmark Steffensen Birgit, Physio Finland Pirttimaa Ritva, Physio France Fourrier François, MD Léger Patrick, MD Muir Jean François, MD Pison Christophe, MD Robert Dominique, MD Italy Ambrosino Nicolino, MD Braggion Cesare, MD Clini Enrico, MD Corrado Antonio, MD Frigerio Pamela, Physio Navalesi Paolo, MD Pelosi Paolo, MD Santambrogio Luigi, MD Zuffo Sergio, Physio Norway Andersen Tiina, Physio Fondenes Ove, MD Markussen Heidi, Nurse Portugal Gonçalvès Miguel, Physio Winck Joao Carlos, MD Spain Escarabill Joan, MD Esquinas Antonio, MD Guell Rosa, MD Sweden Switzerland De Halleux Quentin, Physio Fitting Jean-William, MD Janssens Jean-Paul, MD Schaller Marie-Denise, MD Tunisia Dziri Catherine, MD USEFUL ADDRESSES Organizing Secretariat Milan, Italy Phone Fax Please, visit the websites: Congress Venue Palazzo dei Congressi di Stresa Piazzale Europa, 3 Phone Fax FOR FURTHER INFORMATION 3 PLENARY PLENARY PROGRAM OVERVIEW THURSDAY, APRIL 2, PARTICIPANTS REGISTRATION WELCOME TO THE PARTICIPANTS PULMONARY REHABILITATION PLENARY SESSION Coffee Break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS Lunch Break and Practical Symposia AEROSOL PLENARY SESSION Poster Session (1) and Coffee Break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS FREE COMMUNICATIONS Wine and cheese cocktail PLENARY PLENARY WORKSHOP 1 WORKSHOP 2 FRIDAY, APRIL 3, INTENSIVE CARE PLENARY SESSION Poster Session (2) and Coffee break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS Lunch Break and Practical Symposia MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS PLENARY SESSION Poster Session (3) and Coffee Break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF ERCA WORKSHOP 3 WORKSHOP 4 4 PLENARY PLENARY SATURDAY, APRIL 4, NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS PLENARY SESSION OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETIES Poster Session (4) and Coffee break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS Lunch Break and Practical Symposia AIRWAY CLEARANCE PLENARY SESSION Poster Session (5) and Coffee Break PULMONARY REHABILITATION AEROSOL INTENSIVE CARE MANAGEMENT OF SURGICAL PATIENTS NEUROMUSCULAR DISORDERS AIRWAY CLEARANCE SLEEP DISORDERS WORKSHOP 5 ROUND TABLE 5 SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM THURSDAY, APRIL 2, PARTICIPANTS REGISTRATION WELCOME TO THE PARTICIPANTS AUDITORIUM AUDITORIUM Coffee Break ROOM ROOM ROOM 3 MORNING PLENARY SESSION ON PULMONARY REHABILITATION: FROM THE STATE OF THE ART TO CLINICAL APPLICATION Chairmen N.
