Design Genre Portfolio Project Proposal This portfolio will document my work throughout the design genre unit. In this section I will include my Design Brief, Areas of Investigation, Design Constraints, Time Plan, Research and Ideas I will be doing a The Design Constraints or Limitations section will be used to identify the  factors that may restrict my processes. The design brief will give a description of how I intend to solve the problem. My Areas of Investigation section will include those areas I wish to focus on when building my project. My constraints will outline the time, tools, materials etc. that I have to complete this project. My ideas section will include my initial sketches along with a final idea. Finally, I will include an ongoing evaluation to conclude the section. The Design Genre that I have chosen is De Stijl my project will reflect this genre through its aesthetics. Design Brief I will design and manufacture a De Chair in order to fulfill my need of a piece of furniture. My project will be aesthetically pleasing, ergonomic, safe, appropriate, and sustainable, function well and be of high quality. The design will be completed by the end of Term 3 and will be made using the tools and resources available at Knox Grammar or those, which I am able to source myself. Specifications / constraints Material Choice: I chose the martials Metal and Acrylic to portray the design genre De Stijl, while researching this genre I decided that metal and Acrylic will display De Stijl in the best possible way, by only using the Acrylic colours Blue, Red and Yellow, also the over use of squares to influence the audience and its users that the De Chair is a traditional De Stijl Design although it is very unique, the design would not stray  from the genre. Material Size Quantity  Acrylic   800x400x3mm  X1 Metal 10mmx3m    X2 OVERALL SIZE can be no larger than 500x500x500mm.   Areas of Investigation You will need to list and justify areas that you think will need to be investigated for your own project. Examples may include materials, designers, cost etc. Research and create a Concept/Inspiration Board for your project, which will include things such as Existing Ideas, Techniques, and Materials etc. Time Action Plan/ Financial Plan You will need to produce an annotated time action plan. Using the provided Resource Costing Sheet, provide an estimate for the expense of the manufacture of your project -   Below is a mind map, which identifies all possible areas of investigation required to complete my Design Genre unit. I will be used to identify all possible research topics to assist me in the completion of my project. MIND MAP INSERT HERE:    Project Development & Realization This task covers approximately 9 weeks. Research:   Problem 1. Which material was prevalent during your design genre era? Options Example (Pictures) Modern Day Equivalent/ School  Accessible Metal Metal: Assessable Colourful sheets of cloth  Acrylic sheets: Assessable Final Decision: Both of these elements will be used in my final project Problem 2. Which manufacturing techniques were used during your design genre era? Options Example (Pictures) Modern Day Equivalent/ School  Accessible Use of straight lines By using a level I can accurately use the straight line technique The use of boxes and squares By using various type of joining e.g. PVA  gluing, welding and nailing. Final Decision: Both of these manufacturing techniques will be needed WEEK 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Comments Identification & Exploration of the Need Proposed Actual Areas of Investigation Proposed Actual Criteria to Evaluate Success Proposed Actual Time / Action Plan Proposed Actual   Problem 3. Which finishing techniques were used during your design genre era? Options Example (Pictures) Modern Day Equivalent/ School  Accessible Sharp edges Ob-skewer Final Decision: Problem 4. What type of individual style was used during your design genre era? Options Example (Pictures) Modern Day Equivalent/ School  Accessible Final Decision: Ideas Minimum 6 annotated ideas should be developed  Annotate your idea sketches on the form and function, their weak and strong points. Development and Final Idea Create a CAD drawing of your project and briefly discuss improvements made to your favorite idea, then produce a final idea. There should be evidence of how your initial ideas assisted you in arriving at your final idea.
