Women from all walks of life, Jewish and Palestinian, partake in CWP out of commitment to struggle against all forms of racism, oppression and discrimination. We welcome all newcomers and work towards increasing the participation of women in the social-political arena. Coalition of Women for Peace initiates political campaigns and promotes feminist discourse and values. As a feminist organization that is working towards ending the occupation and any forms of oppression, we place great emphasis on ongoing self-examination and peer-examination. As organization and groups that advocate social change, we must see how we can help each other in creating a better and hopefully safer community. Community that advocates change and reconstruction of social orders, while being able to self-examine Who is this kit for?  This kit is suitable for everyone – individual activists from different genders, activist groups, civil society organizations, and anyone else who might be interested. In every organization there are hidden and open hierarchies. For some of us it’s easy to notice it and for others they can be a bit more elusive. A hierarchical organization can be gender-sensitive, and incorporate feminist tools into its daily operations. And it should be mentioned that a non-hierarchical organization doesn’t necessarily incorporate feminist values into its daily practice. Sadly, but naturally, manifestations of oppression, gender-based discrimination and sexism occur in every community. Even in the activists groups, in social change organizations, anti-discrimination and those who struggle to end the occupation. We all live in a militaristic, aggressive reality, and its ramifications permeate into our personal lives, our political activism circles and our work in the field of social justice. The absolute majority of social change activists perceive their workplace as a relatively safe place merely due to the fact that their co-workers, just like them, work on creating a social change and a more equal society. But when we talk about ending oppression, equality and change in societal power dynamics, do we also take a look at ourselves and our colleagues? Will my co-worker necessarily be more respectful of me than my neighbor or my friend from college, only because he\she works for social change?  󰀴 Another issue that arises here- If one of our co-workers will act in appropriately or aggressively, will we actually confront him? Or do we rise up against it only when it’s someone who isn’t “one of us . In other words - Do we practice what we preach? As agents for social change, we need to make sure that the values we work to promote externally, are being put to practice internally as well, and are incorporated into our activist organization’s corporate culture. Whether the group/organization proclaims itself as feminist or not, or doesn’t do so but works towards ending forms of societal oppression - it’s important we take notice of the gender and power dynamics within the group, and use various tools to make changes when norms who stand in contradiction to the values we uphold and wish to represent, permeate our group. Do we have all the answers? We most certainly don’t. This kit will use a few examples. There are many tools and ways in which we could air our initial ideas here. Those who are interested will easily be able to find more materials. More than we hope you will find answers here, we hope that this kit will inspire questions and discussion topics in your groups and organizations. We are happy to assist, to partake in thinking circles and discussions, answer questions, meet with groups and organizations that wish to examine their own processes, conduct gender sensitivity trainings and workshops. We have already done this type of work with organizations in Israel and in Europe, and we would love to keep going with it.
