In Mission du Lac, Deux-Montagnes County census of 1851 within the population of people from white European descents residents, only one Mohawk woman seemed to have lived within this part of the population in this period. The whole population of Mission du Lac was composed by 650 people: white Europeans and Mohawks, Algonquians, and some from other First Nations. She is recorded as a white lady in this same census which is presenting the population of 630 people from all origins: French Canadians: 218 Natives from France: 3 Natives from the USA: 1 Indians: 408 Catholic Romans: 630 Men: 313 Women: 317 The first 8 pages of the census, of 34 pages, are listing the Europeans and French Canadians taking part in Mission du Lac, by men of several employments and aptitudes to lead and organize the mission. Through those men listed in the first page, Dominique Ducharme, Captain of the Savage department, followed by Agathe Delorimier, who became his wife on 26 June 1810, daughter of Claude-Nicolas-Guillaume de Lorimier, resident Indian agent at Caughnawaga (Kahnawake). Ducharme was commissioned a lieutenant in the Pointe-Claire Battalion of Militia on 21 July 1812, after war broke out with the United States. He led the Mohawks and Algonquians to the 1812 war. 1 1 Cruikshank, Lt. Col. G. The Documentarv History of the Campaign upon the Niagara Frontier. Cruikshank The Lundy's Lane Historical Society, n.d. All professions and/or occupations are listed in a column, and the white population is mostly consisting of the followings: daily worker or handyman, farmers, bakers, carpenters, merchants, masons, smiths, some are even listed as gentlemen. Most villagers, Europeans and Natives lived in houses of wooden structures. They were mostly cultivating farming which was mostly consisting of growing peas, oat, wheat, buckwheat, corn, potatoes, hay, tobacco, and maple sugar and breeding cows, sheeps, pigs. They had 160 horses. Below a notice mentioning that Beside their cultivated soil, in the annexed report, the savages of this mission still own 300 acres of land, that their laziness stops them to farm on a regular basis. Observations In addition to the cultivated land in the attached report, joint here, the savages of the mission still have three hundred acres of land that their indolence (laziness) prevents them from growing steadily One of these handymen, Pierre Chalifour, 50 years old is the only man of European descents who seems in union with an Iroquois lady, Mary Sakwiohens 52 years old, who is listed as a white woman, in the first pages concerning only the European descendants, and they have a son, Michel Chalifour 12 years old. Her and their son were both not listed as Indians in the census, which is presenting a column mentioning the following attributes to be checked, if concerned: Married or not- Person of color, or Negro Indian, if there are any Residents: family member or not family member Absent family members Deaf or Dumb Blind Insane 630 individuals from the census were composed as follow: French Canadians: 218 Natives from France: 3 Natives from USA 1 Indians 408 Catholics 630 Men 313 Women 317 Souls 630 Priest and missionaries were of course structuring the farming new way of living of the Mohawk and several Algonquians of the mission.
