Students will find someone throughout that unit they considered their hero. Students will write a paper on why they think of them as a hero, how they helped during that time, and what they would say or ask them if they were having a conversation today with them. What technologies would be required to implement this proposed learning activity in a classroom? Computers in order to submit the paper the students write.  Describe how the following features are addressed in this learning experience (note: all of them may not be addressed in the project, but most should be if you are reaching a high LoTi Level.): a.   Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their classroom and often beyond their school : Students will be able to read and share their stories with others around the world . b.   Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (collecting srcinal data and or producing srcinal products as a result of engaging in the project): Students are creating srcinal stories of their heroes from the Civil Rights Period.  c.   Higher-order thinking: Students are needing to explain their reasoning with facts of why they are considered a hero in their eyes.  d.   Students publishing their srcinal work to others who will use/care about their product: Students are able to create and share their srcinal writing with other students to read around the world.   Bloom’s Level of Critical Thinking Required (check all that apply): See   http://epltt.coe.uga.edu/index.php?title=Bloom%27s_Taxonomy   X Remembering X  Understanding X  Applying Analyzing Evaluating X  Creating   What Level of Technology Implementation best describes this learning activity and Why? Using My Hero Project as an Online opportunity site brings the Level of Technology for this activity to a 5. By allowing students to connect beyond the classroom where they are using higher-order thinking skills, and they are using technology to connect them to the real world.   How could you implement this proposed learning experience and still comply with your district’s Internet Safety and Student Privacy policies?  As a teacher you can implement this lesson and still follow district policies in many different ways including : Having students use aliases instead of their real names, monitoring the website constantly, asking for permission to use the site by parents and school administration, making sure the location of your school is not given out by yourself or students, and make sure all parties which are being connected with have all done the required background checks.     2
