  • 1. Practice questions 2 on Research Methods for AS Psychology Researchers wanted to investigate the reliability of the Matching Hypothesis, and to see whether partners in romantic couples would be rated as having similar levels of physical attractivenenss. 1. What is term for the part of a study that describes what researchers want to investigate? ........................................................................................................................................ (1 mark) The researchers designed a correlational study to investigate this. They recruited Ps from the local sports centre, by advertising for volunteers on a notice board. They ensured that all Ps were over 16yrs. Researchers explained to Ps what they would be asked to do before asking if they were happy to participate. Ps were told that they had the right to withdraw from the study at any point. Ps who agreed to take part were then shown photographs of 5 females, and were asked to rate the attractiveness of each person shown on a scale of 1-10 (where 10 = very attractive, and 1 = not at all attractive). Ps were then shown photographs of 5 males (the partners of the females), and were asked to rate their attractiveness in the same way. The researchers recorded the scores in a table. The summary data are shown in Table 1 below. All Ps were debriefed at the end of the study. Identify one intervening variable which may have affected the results of the study, and explain briefly how this may have affected the performance of Ps. ............................................................................................................................................................ ............................................................................................................................................................ ............................................................................................................................................................ ............................................................................................................................................................ ............................................................................................................................................................ ............................................................................................................................................................ .......................................................................................................................................(2 marks) 9.
