What is a good question? <ul><li>Looking at the questions you have been given, think about the following questions: </li></ul><ul><li>Are all these questions good ‘quiz questions’? </li></ul><ul><li>Which ones can be answered with a single correct answer? </li></ul><ul><li>Which ones might be a matter of opinion? </li></ul><ul><li>Were there any that were not really questions at all? </li></ul><ul><li>Which ones, do you think, were philosophical questions? </li></ul><ul><li>Now, can you try and say what philosophical questions have in common in your own words? </li></ul><ul><li>Think up two philosophical questions of your own. Do others agree that they are philosophical? </li></ul>

What is philosophy? <ul><li>Philosophy means ‘love of wisdom’ in Greek </li></ul><ul><li>If you are being philosophical, you are wondering about thoughtful questions, and trying to understand them better. </li></ul><ul><li>An example might be, “What is wisdom?” </li></ul><ul><li>It is philosophical because people might have different opinions about it. There is no single answer. It needs to be discussed or enquired about. </li></ul>
  • 4. A Community <ul><li>Look at the success criteria for developing your philosophical skills </li></ul><ul><li>How would developing your philosophical skills help you in your studies? </li></ul><ul><li>How should we work together in our community? </li></ul>

The Plan <ul><li>You will see an image </li></ul><ul><li>Thinking time- You will have some time to reflect upon the image privately </li></ul><ul><li>Conversation- You will share your private reflections in a small group </li></ul><ul><li>Formulation- You will create questions in your groups based on the image </li></ul><ul><li>Sharing- We will share our favourite question with the whole group and decide which question we want to discuss </li></ul><ul><li>The questions will be discussed- how can we do this effectively? </li></ul>
