tutoring sessions took place in children’s own home Tutor 7 years old -providing both of my students with academic support, developing academic materials and lessons relevant to the coursework, and providing one-on-one instructional practice -working with a child who has a mild form of autism spectrum disorder, whom I had previously coached in the summer -developing an authentic and genuine rapport was a fundamental first step; required a secure relationship grounded in trust which we had built over the summer during soccer and into the school year -I assisted this child with difficulties they experienced mainly in reading, writing and mathematics; required patience as each exercise needed to be worked through for an extended period of time -using visual cues and concrete visual methods to teach number concepts; avoiding long strings of verbal instructions; working with phonics -I often modified certain elements of the homework by approaching questions differently in efforts to increase comprehension; for example, with language, if a grammatically correct paragraph was expected, we would break it down and begin with forming proper sentences and focus on word  structure/spelling;
