Turn to page 6 Hamilton School District’s proposed 3.83percent budget increase for 2014-2015 wasapproved during an Oct. 20 School board meet-ing.The $55,026,252 budget includes a milrate of 9.76 per $1,000 equalized valuation,which is 44 cents lower than last year. The milrate is also 52 cents lower than what boardmembers srcinally estimated during the boardmeeting in summer.Board members said that state aid hasincreased by 1.69 percent, contributing to thereduced mil rate. The budget’s net tax levy hasincreased to $29.46 million which is paid bylocal taxpayers.Student enrollment at Hamilton SchoolDistrict for 2014-2015 school year is at an all-time high, and this partly contributes to the over-all budget increase, according to John Roubik,director of educational services and humanresources.“There are no open enrollment seats for nextyear because we have 32 more studentsenrolled in the district for this school year,” saidRoubik. “Many other districts have more openenrollment seats because their overall districtenrollment is decreasing, but Hamilton’s isincreasing.”Roubik also said that the number of seatsavailable for students to enroll through Chapter220 remains at 110, a number they’ve main-tained for years.
