Novotny Room #392 Office: #327  Telephone: 1.708.434.3327 E-mail: mnovotny@oprfhs.org Office hours: with teacher as requested Course description:  This course is an introduction to the creative side of image making. Students will build on their previous drawing experience using techniques of printmaking. The printing processes to be explored will be xerox transfer, relief printing, etching, monoprint, serigraphy, papermaking, and bookmaking. The course will familiarize the students with the long tradition of the print. Textbooks / Materials: Required,   Available in classroom during 1 st  week of class PRINTMAKING KIT: ã   2 pieces of Engravers Copper 4” x 6” (16 gauge) ã   Unmounted linoleum 8” x 10” ã   1 Sketchbook ã   Screen printing Frames with Polyester 8” x 12” ã   1 Acrylic Sheet 12” x 12” ã   Red Fiber Envelope Grades:  Grades are based on EFFORT, CRAFTSMANSHIP, QUALITY and CREATIVITY. The final grade is based on: in-class assignments, sketchbook, clean-up, class participation, and behavior. Parent Notification of Grades: Students will receive a written evaluation for each project completed in the class. They will receive a full summary of their progress in the form of a printout of their grade/percentage on each project every 4 weeks. Students and parents can request a grade printout at any point throughout the semester. Parents can contact me for further information about your student’s progress at 708.434.3327 or via email: mnovotny@oprfhs.org. Parent Access to Grades: Parents can access their son/daughter’s grade for this class via the SKYWARD program. Their grades will be updated every 2 weeks. Grading Scale: A = 4.00 - 3.5 B = 3.49 - 2.5 C = 2.49 - 1.5 D = 1.49 - 1.0 F = 0.90 - 0.0 Quarter Grade: Classroom Assignments 70% Sketchbook Assignments 15% Class Participation, Clean-up, Behavior 15%   Final Exam Grade: Printmaking does not require a final exam  There will be a final project that will be averaged in with Classroom Assignment grade Semester Grade: Based on the average of the first and second quarter grades Course Outline – Semester 2 Third Grading Period: Silkscreen, Stencil Spray Paint, Linoleum Print, Papermaking Fourth Grading Period: Monoprint, Intaglio Etching, Bookmaking, Xerox Transfer Teacher Expectations: Creative expression is encouraged through a relaxed but organized classroom atmosphere. Students are expected to consistently exercise common courtesy, and show respect for the rights, feelings and property of others. It is also important to remember that teacher and students should do their best to maintain a positive and polite environment. All school rules as detailed by the Code of Conduct are to be followed and will be consistently and fairly enforced by Mrs. Novotny ã   Attendance ã   Bring all required materials ã   Complete assignments on time ã   Bring sketchbook with assignments finished every week ã   Clean-up work area, respect art room supplies Make-up Work  To be completed in a timely fashion Discuss with teacher on an individual basis depending on circumstances Classroom Rules / Teacher Expectations: ã   Respect teacher, classmate, and art room supplies and facilities ã   Remain quiet and attentive during class ã   Follow all directions ã   Avoid inappropriate loudness, continual talking, unnecessary movement and distraction ã   Make-up all missed assignments ã   Leave work area clean ã   Do not eat in art classroom ã   DO NOT STAND NEAR DOOR, remain seated until class is dismissed ã   NO HATS, HEADWEAR, BANDANAS, HEADBANDS, ETC IN CLASS ã   Refrain from any inappropriate language, gestures, and behavior ã   Be responsible for all printmaking kit supplies and sketchbook Cellular Phone and Electronic Devices Rules:   ã   All phones and electronic devices are to be used with respect to teacher and other students and in a manner that is not disruptive to the classroom learning environment ã   Music may be listened to via HEADPHONES only, no small speakers or speaker-mode where other students can hear the music ã   Refrain from texting at any point in class—the hallway/passing period time is for that use ã   At any point when an assessment (test, quiz) are being administered NO CELL PHONE OR ELECTRONIC DEVICE is permitted—otherwise use or visible display of item will be considered cheating ã   Absolutely NO PHONE CALLS, any emergency can be dialed out on classroom teacher’s phone ã   Internet searching/research may be used if it pertains to the lesson or project ã   If you are not sure if the intended use is appropriate just ask teacher
