Course description The course aims to upgrade students’ command of the English language and their communicative competence. Students broaden the range of their vocabulary and improve their grammatical accuracy and control. Equal emphasis is put on developing their reading, listening, writing and speaking skills. Apart from following the coursebook, extra materials and extra activities may be introduced by the teacher to meet the needs of the particular group. Most of the language practice course is done through self-study. Students prepare at home for their lessons which are devoted predominantly to problems students have encountered and to developing speaking and listening skills. Besides the coursebook, the study material in LMS Unifor will be available to them. Number of lessons  4 x 90-minute lesson  Assessment a credit Units covered: U1-2 Credit requirements ã   at least 75%  attendance of the lessons (i.e. 3 out of 4  90-minute lessons) – extra work will be given to those who do not meet this requirement due to legitimate reasons (e.g. illness) ã   active lesson participation ã   be prepared for each lesson, do all homework - both oral and written - on time (students who fail to fulfil this duty will be assigned extra work or in some cases might be considered absent from the lesson) ã   hand in 1 piece of writing ; the topic and format will be specified by the teacher (it is an absolute must to hand these in on time, the contrary might again result in extra work) ã   pass the final credit test  – the test will include grammar and  vocabulary  covered in the lessons and language in use, reading and  listening ; the passing line  for the test is 70% and students can  retake it only once ; the credit test will take place in the last lesson, i.e. on December 2 .   ã   workbook exercises should be worked on independently and continuously at home, they will be dealt with in the class when specified by the teacher and/or if students encounter problems there; students’ knowledge will be checked in tests
