He worked at Big Bazaar, Mumbai who had hired a digital agency called iProspect Communicate2, to handle the Fcaebook pages of Big Bazaar as well as its clothing line, Fashion at Big Bazaar. Big Bazaar is the largest hypermarket chain in India. While Big Bazaar was leading when it came to Traditional Marketing, it greatly lagged behind its competitors when it came to the Social Media front. According to a research, the average penetration rate of a Facebook post is approximately 8.1% of the number of likes on that Facebook page i.e. at least 8.1% of the people who have liked the Big Bazaar as well as Fashion at Big Bazaar Facebook pages, should have seen the various posts put up. But in reality less than 1% were seeing all of that was uploaded. This meant that these Facebook pages weren’t engaging enough for the audiences, because of which Big Bazaar wouldn’t be able to reach out to a  wider audience. The job of this intern while at Big Bazaar dealt with Digital Media Strategy , namely Social Media Optimization . He was required to study the Facebook pages of 24 competitors of Big Bazaar such as Reliance Fresh, D- Mart, Spencer’s, More Meg aStore, Heritage Fresh, EasyDay, Metro, Viva, Vishal MegaMart, Carrefour, Suvidha, Apna Bazaar, Ananda Super Bazaar, Lulu’s, Nilgiri’s, Hiko, Total V Mart, Auchan, Star Bazaar and Hypercity, as well as 9 competitors of Fashion at Big Bazaar such as Pantaloons, Max, Shoppers Stop, Central, Pothy’s, Lifestyle, National Handloom, Westside, Globus and Reliance Trends; understand what the consumers enjoy online and then study the Facebook pages of Big Bazaar & Fashion at Big Bazaar to learn where they were lacking. At the time of his internship, the Facebook page of Big Bazaar had approximately 331000 likes. This meant that taking a threshold value of 5% also meant that at least 16550 people should be seeing each of the Facebook posts, but it was usually around a 100 or 200 and hence this needed to be worked upon. He did his work by dividing the contents on each of the Facebook pages of the competitors under three headings, namely Interactive, Contests and Posts/Videos/Pictures. The Interactive heading included the various puzzles and multiple choice questions to keep audiences engaged. The contests were something a lot of the audiences looked forward to and always tried thinking out of the box to win some goodies. The other pictures and videos included general stuff such as a celebrity inaugurating a newly opened store. On studying the various pages thoroughly, he learnt that while the other pages had a lot of interactivity, Big Bazaar’s Facebook pages didn’t. The other pages did not always keep talking about the ir products and new store openings, but had a lot of interactive puzzle games as well as contests. Moreover, they made sure they reach out to the diverse Indian audiences by having this interaction on topics which most could relate to such as Cricket, Festivals and Bollywood. On the other hand, Big Bazaar had absolutely zero interaction with them only publicizing their products and various promotional campaigns. The job of this intern was that at the end of this research, he had to create a communication deck of Facebook posts which would be put out live for one week from the 26 th  of May, 2014 to the 1 st  of June, 2014. He made sure that the posts he created all related to general topics and were appealing to the public.  He included a lot of puzzles such as Guess the Brand, Guess the Price, Guess the Product etc. while also having general posts such as Do-it-yourself and Did-you-know? All of this resulted in increased engagement activities for the consumer online and hence there was a drastic increase in the reach of the  posts. At the end of this project, Big Bazaar learnt that it was the Digital Agency, iProspect Communicate2 which was at fault and so they were fired.
