CRITICAL READING RESPONSE “ Suggesting Critical-Thinking and Problem-Solving Method into Teaching English Reading to EFL Students in Indonesia ”   Ayumi Pratiwy Tanjung (0304162156) PBI-1/ 7 th semester State Islamic University of North Sumatra INTRODUCTION One of the things that makes me agree with Mrs. Rahmah and friends as the writers of this journal because Indonesian students as EFLs should be advised to think critically in subjects including English to be able to pass a language proficiency test, because it can improve methods of learning English, so they can get the desired results or achievements in the exam. In this case, reading can increase students' knowledge in working on exam questions. Reading is the process of getting more knowledge from an article or discourse. After reading, students are encouraged to think critically in response to what they have read. This aims for students accustomed to respond to things by thinking critically. SUMMARY The application of the method of critical thinking is very useful and one of the positive activities that can support student creativity in learning. Problem solving method is one of the appropriate methods in the application of students' critical thinking. This method is very relevant because it solves a problem that will be solved by students. And (Davidoff, 1998) said that when someone is dealing with a problem, he usually has meta-cognition about the problem he faces, that is how easy or difficult and how the problem will be resolved by him. For example, problem solving methods we can use when we provide a material. The teacher tells students to find problems in a text and find how to solve it.  CRITIQUE I do agree with the writer says …. "Problem-solving as a method in teaching reading could be believed helping students to develop their abilities in reading (Li, 2010)" ….  This is in accordance with what was mentioned (Djamarah, 1991: 72) in a journal “ Kesulitan dan solusi  pembelajaran english reading text by Dewi Kustanti   “  that in teaching and learning activities, methods are needed and their use varies according to the objectives to be achieved after teaching ends". Because an educator will not be able to carry out his task if he does not master any teaching methods formulated. That is why we as teachers must determine the teaching method before class begins. I do agree with the writer says …. "In EFL classroom context, it could be a common mystification about the most appropriate strategies to teach reading comprehension to the students. It may be adequately tricky and seriously challenging to discover the applicable formula to make teaching and learning activities become more engaging and productive (Hamra & Syatriana, 2015) " ….  Well, this is indeed quite complicated to do given that Indonesia is a country that uses EFL and not ESL. The teacher must be extra to be able to make the right methods in the classroom. This is in accordance with Yudhi Arifani's book “Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing ”. "In the process of learning English as a foreign language, English learning is often found where some English teachers tend to teach English not as language skills but as scientific knowledge so it is not surprising if it comes to at present the process of learning English i s still not considered successful”. That is the reason teachers must use better methods to deal with things like this. CONCLUSION Strategy in teaching English in Indonesia which as an EFL is not easy. For that educators must create a problem-solving method so that students can think critically in learning English. Students are required to find problems and how to overcome them.  REFERENCES Arifani, Yudhi. (2017). Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing.  Gresik: UMG Press. Kustanti, Dewi.
