  G ERUND   AND  I NFINITIVE   How to use them.  GERUND    When we use the verb after some verbs; “  She likes dancing   a lot  .”      As a noun (Subject or Object of a sentence); “ Taking   part in a competition feels stressful sometimes .”     After prepositions; “ The secretary left without saying   a word .”    V ERBS    AND  G ERUND    Please avoid    arriving   late for class tomorrow.  I don’t   mind    being   alone when I’m  busy.  We use an  – ing form after some common verbs:  Avoid feel like mind risk Dislike Practice Enjoy Keep Put off Give up Delay Miss Suggest Understand Spend time/money Finish  I NFINITIVE     After some verbs; “ They want to finish their essay so as to hand it in to the teacher in time.”    To say why you do something; “ The kids woke up early to open their Christmas presents .”     After adjectives; “ It’s  so good to sleep after lunch, isn’t   it?”
