  Network Management, 2 nd Edition CHAPTER 1  – DATA COMMUNICATION AND NETWORK MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW CLO 1-UNDERSTAND THE KEY CONCEPTS OF NETWORK DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT  1.2 Data (computer) and Telecommunication Network  Network management is more than just managing networks.  Network management encompasses service management, operations support systems, and business management.  Network management system will be discussed based on client  –  server architecture.  1.2 What is Network Communication? It deals with:1.Theory and application of electrical engineering,2.computer engineering, and 3.computer science to all types of communication over networks.  1.2 A basic network -Nodes and links  1.2Network Nodes  A node can drop and add information channels and at the same time switch information transparently between two links.  Each end node has a connection to a user interface if the information srcinates or terminates there.  This interface could use any type of equipment — audio, video, or Data Terminating Equipment (DTE).  A DTE is any equipment that generates or accepts digital data.  Data can be transmitted either in an analog or digital format.  Long-distance data transmission today is mostly digital due to its superior price and performance.
