The Great War Re-Imagined SCARLETT RAVEN | MARC MAROTThis newly curated collection will change the way you view art.SATURDAY 18TH NOVEMBER, 1-3PM Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot are recognised as the world’s first augmented reality fine artists. They have joined forces to create a series of haunting paintings which reveal the true heartbreak of war. Whilst their paintings have a conventional surface at a first glance, use of the app, Blippar, allows the viewer to unlock the creative journey of each painting, as it strips away the countless layers of paint, revealing the deeply personal process beneath every piece. This event is a great opportunity to meet Scarlett and Marc and learn more about this fascinating process which throws into sharp relief that great question of whether a work of art is ever truly finished. Their poignant undertaking pits the past against the present, reframing history and classic painting techniques through the increasingly interactive lens of 21st century technology. Please contact the gallery if you would like to be added to the guest list for this artist appearance. Alternatively please visit us next time you’re in The Lanes, to pick up a brochure and to see the artwork in the gallery.2 Nile Pavilions, Nile Street, The Lanes, Brighton, BN1 1HW 01273 761 495 | brighton@castlefineart.comUnder a Green Sea | Boxed Canvas Of 25 | Framed Size 44” x 44” | Framed £1950To unlock the multiple layers in Scarlett’s work, download the free Blippar app through the iOS app store or the Google Play Store for Android and simply scan the image above. Goldie and The Heritage Orchestra Ensemble Live is a unique musical experience of the live orchestra and his iconic repertoire, staging The Journey Man Tour. Goldie spoke to Absolute’s Kasia from Thailand about his accomplished life, work and thoughts.Goldie had a rocky childhood. Of mixed race, suffering dyslexia and with an inner city background, a significant part of his youth was getting together with like-minded friends and playing music on weekends. “It was a fascinating time... being influenced by lots of different music which I always found very attractive ... Punk was very big for us ... this subconsciously must have resonated in a lot of ways, because it was original British music. This was the reason why Drum & Bass was something I wanted to champion.” In the light of the substantial political change in the UK at that time, it was an amazing time for music, as the emerging genres were being defined. “We were on the cusp of something fantastic, and I’m grateful for that change ... I knew when we were making Drum & Bass music it was going to be something special. Drum & Bass was a very defining moment in knowing that it wasn’t going to be understood ... was very much like New York Graffiti ... I found an excellent connection with the sub-culture of graffiti.” "The subcultural movement was bringing people from various boroughs together. With the graffiti being “the hum of the country ... a massive colourful explosion of colour that people could read. Not defined by a conventional style, so was Drum & Bass. For the inner city youth culture, it speaks the same language of disenfranchised dystopia freely... The middle class will always resonate towards what’s coming from the streets ... because it speaks the language of the truth. Drum & Bass influences a lot of other music.26It can be gentrified and watered down but it’s misunderstood by the general populace, which is the same as what graffiti art does.” As a sound pioneer Goldie has paved the way for music evolution. “If you stick around long enough you see the art change, people’s views change. Forward thinkers are never cited f
