Advanced Health Economics Vakcode AM_ () Periode Periode 1 Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam - - M Health Sciences Pagina 7 van 38 dr. A.H.E. Koolman dr. J.E. Bosmans, dr. F.R.M. Portrait, dr. A.H.E. Koolman Hoorcollege, Computerpracticum Niveau 500 The objective of this course is to develop students' health economics skills, in particular, to translate health economics into health policy. This course focuses on two major fields of health care: cure and care. In the cure sector managed competition (the Dutch health insurance model) was introduced in Parts of the care sector were in 2007 decentralised to the local governments and the long-term care insurance system is in transformation towards a more client-centred system. Central questions of this course are: What do economists expect the market to accomplish? How to determine what should and should not be covered by basic health insurance? Does long-term care differ from cure adopting an economic perspective? Equity: Is the (more competitive) health market equitable and how can we measure equity in health care? Next to these general questions there will be two streams of policy applications: Cure and managed competition (the Dutch health insurance acts); Long-term care and the discussion about the future of the Dutch compulsory long-term care insurance (AWBZ). After successful completion of this course: You will have knowledge about the economic theory of market competition and efficienc; You are able to recognize and apply theoretical knowledge on case studies within the Dutch managed competition model and in long-term care; You are able to use and apply the economic approach to equity measurement. During this course we will not just focus on transfers of theoretical and practical knowledge but also aim at supporting the development of specific skills. These skills include writing a policy paper as opposed to a scientific paper, writing, presenting and defending a policy document from the perspective of a stakeholder in health care and writing an essay. Onderwijsvorm Lectures and workshops The final grade will be based on a written scientific policy report (50%) and written examination (50%). A minimum 6.0 for the written examination is necessary to pass the course. Advanced Health Law Vakcode AM_ () Periode Periode 3 Nederlands dr. mr. B.J.M. Frederiks mr. dr. V.E.T. Dorenberg, dr. mr. B.J.M. Advanced Statistics Vakcode AM_ () Periode Periode 2 prof. dr. J.W.R. Twisk prof. dr. J.W.R. Twisk Hoorcollege, Computerpracticum Niveau 600 After this course, the students will understand the basic principles of multilevel analysis and longitudinal data analysis. Furthermore, they will be able to perform these techniques with standard software packages: level 3 In the lectures several aspects of advanced methodology will be introduced and discussed. In the computer- practical, these advanced methods will be applied with several software packages, such as SPSS, MLwiN and STATA. In the last part of the course, the students will get a complicated dataset and they have to answer a complicated research question. The results of their analyses must be written in a 'short' paper and must be presented in an oral presentation. The following advanced methodological topics will be discussed: -Multilevel analysis -Longitudinal data analysis Onderwijsvorm - Lectures - Computer practical - Research assignment - Oral presentation - Writing part of a scientific paper Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam - - M Health Sciences Pagina 10 van 38 Written exam (50%) Oral presentation (25%) Paper (25%) All three parts must have been graded at least 6 - Sheets of the lectures - Twisk JWR.
