It is an honor to be considered for one of the Board of Directors positions for the Case Management Society of America. As a case manager of 19 years and a nurse of over 30 years, I have witnessed health care change dramatically and know that it will continue to change in the coming years. The old adage we need to be at the table or we will be on the menu rings true; and I would like to be a part of the work that keeps CMSA on the cutting edge. CMSA has helped to educate legislative officials, members, and other medical professionals on the value of Case Management. I am ready to be a voice for my fellow Case Managers and am willing to carry out the responsibilities this position will entail. As a current board member and past president of the Maryland Chapter, I know that collaboration with the National Board is vital for moving CMSA forward. I am passionate about case management and the awareness and empowerment that CMSA brings to its members. I want to help meet the needs of CMSA members, represent the members views to the National Board, and work in partnership the Executive Committee. By staying informed of the national issues, we can make a difference. CMSA s mission to promote the individual and collective professional development of Health Care for the case manager is a process in which I would like to be a part of. As public policy liaisons, we are told we are the experts when we go to Washington DC and talk to the legislators; our listeners trust and value our opinions and experience. I am willing and ready to help foster case management growth and development and to make a difference in Health Care policy. More than anything else, I am looking forward to collaboratively working within the governing body of CMSA. I whole-heartedly believe in CMSA s mission to empower people to access quality and efficient healthcare. I will make use of my knowledge and past experience on relevant healthcare issues to work with others and bring national priorities and goals to fruition. As a committed member to excellence in the case management process, I want to have a greater role in addressing the issues at the forefront of CMSA and be a part of the diversity and openness the organization has to offer. Thank you for considering my candidacy for the position of Board of Director. 2 REBECCA CIRRI BIOGRAPHY Rebecca Cirri, RN, BSN, CCM, CIC, has been a nurse for over 30 years, a Certified Case Manager (CCM) for 19 years, and a reflexologist for two years. She currently works as a Complex Case Manager at Johns Hopkins HealthCare (JHHC) and has been with the company since After starting as a Disease Management Case Manager for the Johns Hopkins employees and their family members, she became a Regional Case Manager, working with the Medicaid population and the retired military members and their families. In 2013, she returned to working with Johns Hopkins employees and their family members. Rebecca holds a Bachelor s of Science degree (BSN) which she received in 2003 from the College of Notre Dame in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a second generation Reflexologist, who followed in her parents footsteps in 2014 after deciding she wanted to work in a more holistic capacity. She also attained her certification as an Intrinsic Coach in Prior to 2008, Rebecca worked at Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield for 14 years where she held a variety of nursing positions. Her roles included Utilization Review, Case Management from (becoming a Senior CM), and Pre-Service Review where she was the transplant coordinator until In 1998, Rebecca became a CMSA member after attaining her CCM; and in 2008 she became a board member. She has worked on the Public Policy committee as the Maryland liaison and has been participating with the CMSA Hill Day conferences in DC since As president of the CMSA of the Chesapeake chapter in 2013, Rebecca has shown her versatility in the health field as not only a team member but also a leader. In June of 2014, you elected me to serve you the National Board as the Chapter Presidents Council Representative and that experience exposed me to a new facet of case management and non-profit management. Having worked alongside the talented members of the Board and CMI staff, I gained new skills and experience that have given me a renewed sense of the practice of case management. I would like to build on this foundation and use the momentum to serve the CMSA membership in the practice of our profession. This is an exciting time for case managers across the country and the world, as the delivery of healthcare changes on a daily basis. As we are asked to do more with less, I believe that case managers are the leaders of the healthcare movement. If elected as Director, I will work side by side with the new CPC Representative to address the concerns and needs of chapter leadership and members. I believe communication is a key component of leadership and mentoring. To that goal, I will offer to every chapter and every member, the opportunity to communicate with me directly through a monthly conference call, and/or personal one on one time. As a Board Certified Registered Nurse Case Manager and a Certified Case Manager, I am dedicated to the practice of case management and I want to be your voice to the national CMSA Board. Thank you for your consideration. 4 PATRICIA HEINZMAN BIOGROAPHY Patricia Heinzman has been a member of CMSA for over twenty years in the Albuquerque and Kansas City Chapters and has held a variety of positions. She is currently employed as the Transition Nurse Case Manager for Clinical Operations Utilization Management at Presbyterian Health Plan. Patricia has served the New Mexico Rio Grande Chapter of CMSA on the Board of Directors for six years, most recently as Past President for one year, President for three years and Director for one year. She completed one year on the National CMSA Board of Directors in June 2015, as the Chapter Presidents Council Representative where she represented the 75 chapter affiliates as their voice to the organization. Asked by the Board of the NM Rio Grande Chapter to continue her leadership role with the chapter, Patricia agreed to a three year term as the Chapter s Executive Director, an unpaid volunteer position in April of Patricia graduated with a Bachelor s of Science in Nursing from the University of Northern Colorado and celebrated 36 years in nursing in June of Her clinical experience includes emergency department nursing, critical care, orthopaedics, practice management, research, nursing management, case management, disease management and project management. She is a Certified Case Management (CCM) through the Commission for Case Management Certification and a Board Certified Registered Nurse Case Manager through the American Nursing Credentialing Center. Patricia is a member of RN Role Delineation Panel for the American Nursing Credentialing Center since 2013 and currently serves as the panels Vice Chair, working with case managers from across the nation to insure the high quality of standards in the certification of case management. She has written articles, training manuals, and disease specific projects and spoken on a local and national level. I am passionate about case management and I make every attempt to wear and display this passion every single day! It is because of this passion, I want to share it with all whom I come in contact with. My mottos are: to learn and never quit. I also believe that we, who serve as case managers, have the hardest jobs in the medical field and as our department serves as the ICU of the revenue cycle for the organization we represent, we are often assigned other roles or tasks which mean we must multi-task both daily and at times hourly. When this occurs we must learn to work smarter not harder. So, I make every attempt to help educate staff and to this end I have written 3 texts to help develop the skills of case managers. If I am elected as a board member you will have the same advantage if you need help. To ensure I advocate for my mottos, I am constantly reading and educating myself and others on topics that affect both case management and the continuum of care. My teachings also include that case managers must be strategic thinkers. Strategic thinking abilities and the ability to advocate and think outside the box are critical skills for case managers. These skills are necessary if our clients are to have an individualized care plan that allows them to successfully bridge and navigate the continuum of care. My goals as a board member will be to not only teach case management but to also assist CMSA as they challenge or work to implement or repeal any proposed laws or regulations that impact case management. As a board member you will see what previous employees have said about me - I have great listening skills and I will take whatever steps are needed as I attempt to resolve any issues or concerns presented to me or the board. Thus, as your board member and whether you are a nurse or social worker, I will actively use my knowledge and passion for case management to better our organization as I am firm believer that when we are united and work together - we are a dynamic team! Let s have a super next 2 years! 6 PEGGY ROSSI BIOGRAPHY Peggy Rossi has been a nurse for over 50 years, entering Sacramento State College as one of the first schools to allow a student to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in nursing degree. To further her education, she graduated from Golden Gate University in 1985 with a Master s in Public Administration. She has been active in the field of Case Management since the early 1980 s when she was hired to be a medical case manager for a major commercial insurer. From that day forward, she found her true career love serving primarily over the years as Director of Case Management for health plans, medical groups and a major tertiary hospital in the greater Sacramento area. She currently serves as a Consulting Associate for The Center for Case Management out of Westley Ma. Her motto over the years has been Learn and Never Quit and that she has done and continues to do so. As such and to keep current on case management issues and any laws and regulations which may impact case management and the continuum of care, she reads many professional journals and websites. She also possesses a great passion to teach others about case management and the benefits it offers. Over the years, she has written articles for both professionals and the lay public. She is a current contributor to HCPros Case Management Monthly, writing articles of key importance to case managers. This column is entitled From the Director s Desk. Her greatest accomplishments include not only writing program plans and other key documents for many of her employers but also the writing of three text books for case management. Her first 2 texts are: Case Management in Healthcare A Practical Guide (WB Saunders 1997) and Case Management in Healthcare 2 nd Edition (WB Saunders -2003). It was this later text that won the American Journal of Nursing award for best nursing management text in Over the years, these 2 texts have been used in multiple schools of nursing for both their upper and lower division for nurses. Her third text is to assist hospitals as they train new staff to the role and it is entitled The Hospital Case Management Orientation Manual (HCPro 2014). Because of her love for Case Management and her knowledge of how important it is to be certified and that certification attests to the fact the professional has meet the Gold Standards for his or her profession, she was in the first group of candidates who sought case management certification in the early 90s. Over the years she has remained active in both the National and also Local Chapter of CMSA, serving as President in the early 90s. She has participated in the chapter s educational committee and the programs it has presented. Additionally, she has been a speaker for several of the local CMSA events as well as for other professional medical groups, always with the topic centering on case management. With her background and love for Case Management she is the ideal candidate to serve for the next 2 years on the Board of Directors for CMSA. She has been a member of the American Case Management Association (ACMA) since Honors & Awards Professional Memberships Leadership Positions Award for Best Nursing Management Text, American Journal of Nursing, Case Management Society of America (CMSA) Sacramento Chapter of CMSA American Case Management Association (ACMA) 7 Northern CA CMSA, President, 1997 Director Candidate 1 of 6 Stefany Almaden, PhD, RN, MSN, CCM, CPUM, CMCN Employer: Title: Chapter: The Almaden Group, Inc Health Services Consultant / President Southern CA I served in Case Management roles most of my career on the payer and providers side as well as ambulatory and community-based clinics addressing medical and behavioral health. I also served in leadership roles in a variety of settings at local and national levels. I am running for a Board position because I am passionate about public acknowledgment of the specialty of case management which is at the heart of current health care trends under The Affordable Care Act. Having invested years in practice settings and as Faculty member coaching and mentoring nurses and social workers, I believe I ll bring value through national representation to inspire case managers and to spark pride in the specialty. Given the opportunity to serve as CMSA Board-Director, I'll demonstrate an unwavering passion to empower case managers and represent case management's impact on health delivery systems by providing effective and ethical care that focuses on wellness and health-related quality of life for the individuals and communities we serve. I have been actively engaged throughout my career in advocating for patients' rights and for the specialty of case management as well as for policy concerns that acknowledge case management as key player and provider of care coordination services worthy of reimbursement; and national licensure for bringing added value to care delivery. Through my education, research background, diverse work experience and circles of influence, I believe I bring a strong and assertive voice for case management serving on the Board and leading critical case management initiatives at a national level. 8 STEFANY ALMADEN BIOGRAPHY Stefany served in Executive leadership roles for multiple health systems. In her leadership roles, Stefany managed Health Plans, Clinics or Hospitals Care Management Ops in multiple regions and States as well as multiple business lines, developing and mentoring younger or newer nurses and social workers involved in care management. Stefany is Founder of The Almaden Group Inc. Consulting and Transitional Leadership firm, and has been serving as Associate Faculty at the University of Phoenix for almost 10 years in the School of Health Sciences and Nursing, contributing further to educating and mentoring younger or newer nurses into the specialty of integrated care management. Stefany served as editor for journal articles or textbooks and is a published Author and Speaker who has been recently honored as the 2015 Managed Care Nurse Leader of the year and a Finalist in the 2015 LA Business Journal HealthCare Leadership Awards, and was elected to the national CMSA Board to Chair the Chapters Presidents Council to represent the voice of Case Management at a national level. Stefany mentors and volunteers time to develop other nurses and case managers and continually contributes to the profession and to elevating the care management specialty and Health services delivery in every aspect relating to patient safety and the health and Wellbeing of patients, families, and communities.
